Serving in Manhattan Montana

Manhattan Montana is the seed potato capital of the world. The third weekend in August over 5,000 people come to Manhattan to celebrate at an event called The Potato Festival. Our church partners with William and Teresa Johnson and Keystone Church in Manhattan.
Manhattan is a small town in beautiful country.
William Johnson is a the pastor at Keystone Church , a tour guide in Yellowstone and well as a volunteer firefighter.
We went to help with different community projects representing Keystone Stone . The work was hard and physical but we were blessed. The people in Manhattan were amazed that we would come and help their town.
Some of the projects were painting crosswalks and curbs for the school system. Plus we did some extreme fluffing of mulch and softening the ground in a playground. That day was extremely hot. No humidity but with the high elevation we were closer to the sun. We washed seven fire trucks inside and out . We also shined all the chrome and tires making them parade worthy. We cleaned out the fire station and hauled tents, tables, chairs and grills from a warehouse. We set up the canopy tents, 37 tables plus chairs around tables. We cleaned each table and chair washing first then sanitizing. We helped break 220 dozen eggs, opened candy and decorated the church parade float and two vehicles for the parade. We helped cook, serve, bus and clean tables, fill drinks. Empty trash at the pancake breakfast that was sponsored by the fire department. We help serve 1,295 people from 6am to 10:45 am. At 11 am we walked behind the church float in the parade giving out bottled water with church information. After the parade we went back to the fire department and cleaned everything up including taking everything back to the warehouse. We took our first break that day at 2 pm and ate lunch. At 4pm we walked the parade route again carrying trash bags picking up and trash on the streets and sidewalks as well as emptying city trash can and vendors trash as they finished up for the day. These projects took four long days.
William and Teresa walked along side us at every project we did. Every where we went people were thanking us. Many articles of thanks were listed on various community websites.
It was a blessing to serve along William and Teresa and see the love they have for their church and community.
